Changing Your WordPress URL in 3 Simple Steps: A Beginner’s Guide
Changing your website’s url can be a little tricky, especially if you have a lot of links pointing to your current url. You may find that your site is starting to look like another website with similar looks and features.
This article will talk about how to change the url on your wordpress site. It will also give some tips on how to limit the damage that happens when you do this.

Changing your wordpress url can be handy if you are having issues linking your site to the right profile or page. It can also be useful if you have moved your site or changed domains since your previous one.
WordPress URLs are case sensitive so make sure you have the right one. If you use an Anglicise version of your domain, like my blog does, then add wp_:// as the domain!
You can also change it from inside of your theme’s settings, under general settings.
Click on “Edit” for the existing url
Once clicked, you’ll see a new page come up. This is where you can change the url to your new website!
Change the Url to Your New Site
If you want to move your current site over to your new site, then change the url to your new site. You can do this by clicking on the “Edit” link once again and entering your old domain into the input field. Once done, click “Apply” and your site will re-download its files and change its url!
Making a Website Is Easy With WordPress
Bullet point: You do not need a coding skill or computer knowledge to set up a website.
Copy and paste the new url into the box
Now enter the new url into your web browser and then click on the Go button. You will see that the site has been updated, and your new url is now live!
That was easy! Now let’s talk about some of the things you can do with this new url.
How to Change WordPress Url
When you make a purchase online, you can easily move your site to a different domain. This is very useful if you want to add another website as a hub for your online business, or if you want to changeOUT your current domain.
You can also use this new url as a backup in case something happens to your original one. Many people choose this way out of habit, but it is very possible.
Finally, if you want to experiment with switching out domains, take A SNEAK PEEK at some other websites just to see what they look like under yours.
Click on “Save Changes”
Now that your page has a new domain, you will need to change your old domain to the new one. To do this, click on your username at the top, then click on “Profile”.
Then, click on “Edit Site Settings”.
Now, click on “new domain” and enter a new domain. Your old one will be automatically changed to this new one!
Repeat these steps for each different domain you have, making sure to put the correct email in the first time. Once done, scroll down and verify your email address is set as your account owner!
Your site should now be using the new url! If it does not work, look for any typos or oversights.
Clear your browser cache
If you’re checking out from an old url, your new url should be visible right away. If you updated your profile using the new url, then your previous posts and comments should also show up!
If you had to move your account to a new domain or phone number, then it may take a few minutes for the update to happen. Once it does, try visiting the new site!
If it works, great! If not, try changing your network again — maybe moving to a different city or country helped reset your connections.
Try clearing your browser’s cache and/or doing a manual refresh of the site to see if that helps. If not, help us out by sharing this article with other people who need help setting up WordPress.
Refresh the page
If the new url does not work, then you have some other problem. It looks like your website is down!
This may happen if your site is performing well, or if it was being served by a service that was discontinued. In this case, the hosting company has stopped providing it and updates are hard to find.
To check whether or not your site is up and running, verify the domain. If it is still down, try refreshing the page again and see if that helps.
If you know that your site is secure, then check its new url against those domains to make sure it does not get caught in an error message.
Check that your links still work
If you changed your url, make sure that it still works! Changing the url can affect links in your posts and/or peoples’ ability to reach your site.
When you update your website, its smartly designed so that if you change the url, people still can find you! This is how they maintain their revenue streams by linking to your new site.
If someone has a problem accessing your website because of this issue, then they may need to update their software or software application to connect with this new address.
There have been cases where people have had trouble linking to their websites because their software did not recognize the new address. This can be frustrating and costly to fix.
Update your social media accounts with the new url
If you have updated your website’s URL, then it is time to update your other accounts with it. Your current followers and customers on other social media sites should receive the new account with follower and customer notifications.
To ensure that your notifications are set up correctly, you will need to try sending a message to each of your accounts to see if they receive the message. If not, feel free to send a quick email or tweet asking for assistance.
Once you have verified that all of your followers and customers receive the new account notification, then it is time to change the url. This is what will look like on all of your social media channels!
Why do this? Because once people find out that your new url does not exist, they will be hesitant to follow or buy from you, since the old one did not work.
