Do I need an API key to use KnowMCP from Cursor or Claude Desktop?

You need a KnowMCP API key (generated in the MCP API page) to authenticate the connection. But you do NOT need a separate Claude/OpenAI API key — your MCP client provides its own AI. The BYOK API key is only needed for the web chat UI inside WordPress.

What is the recommended memory limit?

The default of 50 entries is a good balance. At ~100 tokens per entry, 200 entries (the hard cap) uses ~20k tokens of context, which is 15–20% of a typical context window. Going higher degrades response quality and increases costs.

Can users see each other's chats or memory?

No. All chat history and memory is isolated per user. Users can only see their own conversations.

What happens if I disable an integration?

Its tools are removed from the chat sidebar and the MCP server endpoint. No data is deleted — re-enabling it restores access.

Why are some integration tools not showing up?

Each integration requires its own API key. Go to KnowMCP > Integrations, check that the status shows "Connected" (not "Needs API Key"), and that the API key is valid. Generate the key in the sibling plugin's admin panel.
